Home Repairs Assistance Grant
The Council can offer financial assistance towards the cost of essential home repairs, energy saving measures and other necessary improvements or minor adaptations. The purpose is to help vulnerable occupants to remain living at home for longer in a dwelling that is in a safe, sound and suitable condition.
The Council, through its Home Improvement Agency, will assess the condition of dwellings and the occupant's personal circumstances in deciding whether such help can be offered.
Home Repair Assistance grants may be offered to occupants in receipt of a recognised benefit and these are:
- Income support
- Income based job seekers allowance
- Housing Benefit
- Council tax benefit (not the 'single persons discount')
- Disabled Living allowance
- Attendance allowance
- Disabled Persons tax credit
- Working Tax credit or Child Tax credit (total income less than £15,000)
- Pension Credit Guarantee
The maximum amount of financial assistance is £5,000 for approved works, improvements or adaptations. Eligibility will depend on both personal circumstances and the condition of the dwelling.
